Plan de descarbonización se adelanta a 2024 con salida de cerca de 700 MW
En el marco de la Cumbre de Cambio Climático COP25, el ministro de Energía, Juan Carlos Jobet, y ejecutivos de Engie, anunció que se suman al plan de salida de la primera fase (2024) las centrales ubicadas en Mejillones (CTM1 y CTM2), con una capacidad total de 334 megawatts.
Además, el Gobierno llegó a un acuerdo para que cierren antes del cronograma planificado originalmente Ventanas 1 y 2 de AES Gener, con una capacidad de 340 megawatts. El Gobierno acelerará cambios regulatorios e inversiones en transmisión para viabilizar dichos cierres.
“Esta es una gran noticia para los chilenos. Son casi 700 megawatts de centrales a carbón que se cerrarán anticipadamente y que serán reemplazados por energías renovables, las cuales permiten tener electricidad más barata y limpia”, destacó el ministro de energía, Juan Carlos Jobet.
Engie Luego del anuncio realizado por el ministro, Engie Energía Chile informó que cerrará dos unidades en Mejillones, que se suman a otras cuatro ubicadas en Tocopilla (dos ya cerradas y otras dos comprometidas a firme para el año 2021), por lo que destacó que cesarán sus operaciones cerca de 800 MW de capacidad instalada a carbón.
Las unidades a cerrar anunciadas por la compañía, son las del Complejo Termoeléctrico Mejillones 1 y 2 de Mejillones, que suman 334 MW), previsto para 2024.
«De esta forma, al 2024 la compañía habrá concretado la salida de seis unidades de carbón en el país. A ello se suma el esfuerzo regional por parte del grupo energético, que en Madrid también comunicó el cierre de la unidad Ilo21 (135 MW), en Perú, totalizando así el cierre de casi 1.000MW en América Latina en los próximos cinco años», indicó la empresa mediante un comunicado.
Se señaló que el cierre de las plantas en Chile «equivale a una reducción global de 3 millones de toneladas de CO2 o bien sacar de circulación el 20% de parque automotriz».
En línea con el plan de descarbonización de Chile, Engie Energía Chile suscribió también una carta de intención (“Letter of Intent”) con el Inter-American Development Bank Group (“IDB Group”), para estructurar un préstamo a largo plazo por hasta US$125 millones.
El objetivo del préstamo es financiar las inversiones en plantas de generación a base de energías renovables, todo en línea con la intención de la compañía de avanzar de forma decidida hacia la salida del carbón en los próximos años.
AES Gener Tras el anuncio y compromiso del Gobierno de Chile de acelerar la entrada en vigencia del Estado Operativo de Reserva Estratégica (“ERE”) y adelantar las inversiones necesarias en materia de transmisión, AES Gener manifestó su respaldo y voluntad de anticipar el retiro de las unidades a carbón Ventanas 1 y Ventanas 2 a la fecha más pronta que la seguridad y suficiencia del sistema eléctrico nacional lo permita.
El gerente general de AES Gener, Ricardo Falú, indicó que «reafirmamos nuestro total compromiso de acelerar un futuro energético más seguro y sustentable para Chile y respaldamos la decisión del Ministro de Energía de acelerar los cambios regulatorios y las inversiones que se requieren para permitir el retiro anticipado de Ventanas 1 y Ventanas 2».
«AES Gener lidera el proceso de descarbonización de la matriz eléctrica de Chile con los 871 MW de energía renovable que; junto con sus filiales, tendrá en construcción al cierre del año, la adquisición del parque eólico Los Cururos (110 MW), los 52 MW de baterías en operación y una cartera de proyectos renovables de más de 4.800 MW. También, el aporte del proyecto hidroeléctrico de pasada Alto Maipo, es de gran relevancia y a la fecha registra un avance de 83%», agregó el ejecutivo.
