Durante el fin de semana, mientras Carabineros de la Sección OS-7 realizaban fiscalizaciones en la Ruta 5 Norte, a la altura del Kilómetro 986 de la comuna de Chañaral, se controló un bus interprovincial itinerario Calama-Santiago. Una vez informado al Fiscal de turno de Chañaral, se procedió al análisis de la droga la que arrojó coloración positiva para Marihuana, cuyo peso arrojó los 20 kilos 140 gramos, que traducidos a dosis alcanzan los 40 mil 298 papelillos, con un avalúo total de 120 millones de pesos.

El teniente Avendaño dijo que la droga encontrada fue embarcada en la ciudad de Calama con destino a la capital del país. Realizada las investigaciones no se pudo establecer vínculo con ninguno de los pasajeros, por cuanto se informó como un procedimiento de hallazgo de droga.
