Minera Carola Coemin la primera en Chile en usar 100 % de energías limpias
El Grupo Minero Carola-Coemin, que tiene sus operaciones en la comuna de Tierra Amarilla, en la Región de Atacama, se transformó en la primera compañía privada de Chile, que utilizará el 100% de energías limpias en su proceso de producción, al firmar un contrato de largo plazo de suministro con la empresa multinacional española “Acciona”, equivalente a dejar de emitir 37 mil 880 toneladas de C02 o dejar fuera de circulación a 209.632 vehículos.
La ceremonia y firma de contrato se realizó en el Salón Auditorium “Gerardo Claps Gallo” que tiene la Compañía en el sector del Museo Mineralógico en la comuna de Tierra Amarilla y fue celebrado entre el Gerente General del Grupo Minero Carola – Coemin, Víctor Hugo Álvarez Ávalos y el Director País y Sudamérica de Acciona, José Ignacio Escobar, quien expresó: “Estamos muy contentos de haber firmado este contrato de suministro de energía de largo plazo, el primer contrato con una minera privada en Chile con un suministros cien por ciento renovable, competitivo sustentable y que va a demostrar que la mediana minería también se puede sumar al cambio de la descarbonización y de la sostenibilidad que permitan hacer un cambio sustantivo no solo en su actividad, sino también en contribuir en hacer una minería sustentable y del futuro».
El ejecutivo explicó que esperaba que este convenio sea un importante aporte para la comunidad. “Esta relación entre el Grupo Minero Carola Coemin y Acciona, realmente contribuirá al negocio de la minería para que así puedan bajar la huella de carbono y también la comunidad lo pueda tomar como un ejemplo. Hay que continuar trabajando para hacer una descarbonización en el país lo antes posible, porque la magnitud y escala de la urgencia climática que hoy tenemos nos llama a hacernos responsables, acelerando los cambios que sean necesarios en nuestros procesos productivos. Invito a todas las empresas para que se sumen en forma acelerada y confiada en esta cruzada de la descarbonización y transición de un modelo económicamente sustentable”.
Por su parte, Víctor Hugo Álvarez, expresó que el cierre de este contrato de suministro de energía limpia para las operaciones de mina Carola y Planta Coemin Cerrillos – el que se extenderá inicialmente por siete años – permite a la compañía ingresar al selecto grupo de empresas mineras nacionales que operarán con el ciento por ciento de energías renovables”.
Indicó que: “La industria minera ha sufrido diversos cambios en el último tiempo en el marco de las exigencias medioambientales, sociales y legales, para operar de forma más limpia y menos contaminante. Un aliado en este desafío son las Energías Renovables no Convencionales cuyo uso está siendo cada vez más importante en el sector, es por eso que como Grupo Minero hemos establecido la incorporación de estas energías limpias en el cien por ciento de nuestras operaciones, de manera de contribuir a la descarbonización y al cambio climático”. concluyó.
Finalmente, tanto los ejecutivos del Grupo Minero Carola Coemin como los de Acciona presentes en la firma de contrato, recorrieron y conocieron las principales instalaciones de la Compañía.
