Masters 1.000 de Madrid se disputará de manera virtual
La organización del Masters 1.000 de Madrid, único ATP Masters 1.000 y Premier Mandatory WTA y que debía realizarse del 1 al 10 de mayo, anunció este lunes la creación torneo virtual que reemplazará la forma en la que se juega el tradicional certamen.
El campeonato se disputará entre el 27 y 30 de abril y tendrá el nombre de Mutua Madrid Open Virtual Pro, donde «las grandes estrellas ATP y WTA se medirán en el ‘Estadio Manolo Santana’, recreado al detalle en el videojuego Tennis World Tour, pero cambiando la raqueta de mano por el control de la consola«, indicó el comunicado oficial.
Además, el evento tendrá una donación de 150.000 euros en ambos cuadros (ATP y WTA) y la organización agregó que «los ganadores podrán decidir la cantidad que entregan a los tenistas con más problemas económicos actualmente y, adicionalmente, un total de 50.000 euros que irán destinados íntegramente a reducir el impacto social de la pandemia de la COVID-19«.
En el certamen habrá dieciséis participantes individuales, cuyos nombres aún o están confirmados y los cuales serán repartidos en cuatro grupos.
«Desde que anunciamos que el Mutua Madrid Open no podría disputarse en las fechas inicialmente previstas, hemos estado trabajando para pensar cómo podríamos acercarle el tenis a los aficionados», expresó el director del campeonato, Feliciano López.
