Línea de transmisión Cardones – Polpaico: infraestructura clave para la descarbonización

*La obra de la empresa eléctrica filial de ISA cumple dos años de operación luego que el 29 de mayo de 2019 conectara la línea de 753 km al Sistema Eléctrico Nacional, lo que permitió completar la anhelada interconexión de Chile a 500 kV.

A dos años de la puesta en marcha del proyecto de transmisión más grande del país, la Línea de Transmisión 2×500 kV Cardones – Polpaico de ISA INTERCHILE se consolida como la infraestructura clave para la descarbonización de la matriz energética.

La puesta en servicio de esta infraestructura de transmisión, la más importante en los últimos 50 años y que dio el vamos al plan de descarbonización de la matriz, implicó la instalación de un total de 1.728 torres de alta tensión, que se extienden a lo largo de 753 km desde Copiapó, Región de Atacama, hasta la comuna del Til Til, Región Metropolitana. Estas estructuras han permitido el ingreso masivo de energía renovable de fuentes eólicas y fotovoltaicas generadas en el norte del país, hacia los grandes centros de consumo en la zona central.

El gerente general de ISA INTERCHILE, Gabriel Melguizo, comenta que “estos dos años de exitosa operación representan una experiencia única para la compañía. Vemos con gran optimismo el futuro de Chile y estamos en permanente búsqueda de nuevos desafíos, porque estamos hechos para grandes cosas. Nos llena de orgullo saber que somos articuladores del desarrollo sostenible de Chile al ver los enormes beneficios que ha entregado esta línea al sistema. para potenciar la generación renovable y minimizar los vertimientos de energía”.El compromiso de ISA INTERCHILE se alinea con los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible de la ONU y el Plan de Descarbonización que impulsan las autoridades del sector, que busca cerrar de forma programada las centrales a carbón que operan en el país hacia 2040 y reducir significativamente las emisiones de CO2, junto con lograr la carbono-neutralidad en 2050.

VOCACIÓN ARTICULADORA:

A nivel territorial, ISA INTERCHILE ha trabajado de forma cercana y colaborativa tanto con organizaciones sociales, fundaciones, ONG’s y autoridades regionales en distintas iniciativas para fomentar el desarrollo sostenible de la región de Atacama, desde la esfera ambiental, social y cultural.

La Seremi de Energía de Atacama, Kim-Fa Bondi, destacó que “la Línea Cardones – Polpaico ha sido fundamental para el proceso de expansión del sector de transmisión en el país. Nos sentimos orgullosos de que aquí en Atacama, región líder en energías renovables, inicie el recorrido de esta línea posibilitando evacuar toda la energía fotovoltaica y eólica que producimos en el norte, para llegar con energías limpias a todo Chile.  Cardones – Polpaico ha facilitado el escenario de un Sistema Eléctrico Nacional con mayor capacidad, seguridad y visión de largo plazo”.Hoy, más de cinco millones de hogares reciben energía limpia transportada por la Línea de Transmisión 2×500 kV Cardones – Polpaico, lo que es especialmente relevante dado el contexto sanitario actual y la necesidad de quedarse en casa.
