Ignacio Madero Cabib es el primer latinoamericano en formar parte del Comité Editorial de la prestigiosa revista Work, Aging & Retirement. Creció y vivió en Copiapó durante gran parte de su vida y hoy, a los 33 años, es uno de los académicos más jóvenes en la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile y forma profesionales de su especialidad.

Ignacio es hijo de Percival Madero y Paulina Cabib Andrés, conocida familia copiapina. Su padre estudió Ingeniería en Metalurgia en la Escuela de Minas de Copiapó y su madre Paulina en el Liceo de Niñas “Mercedes Fritis Mackenney” de la capital de la Región de Atacama. Ella posteriormente se tituló de Médico Cirujano en la Universidad de Chile.

Ignacio estudió en Santiago, en el colegio San Ignacio de Alonso Ovalle y, a los 22 años, egresó como el mejor alumno de su promoción en Sociología de la Universidad Alberto Hurtado. Luego, fue becado por el Gobierno de Suiza para estudiar un Doctorado en Sociología, del cual se tituló a los 27 años.

Debido a su gran trayectoria fue elegido para participar en la revista Work, Aging and Retirement de Oxford Academic, en la cual se hablan de diversos temas relacionados a las personas mayores y se investiga sobre el envejecimiento y la jubilación de las trabajadoras y trabajadores.

El objetivo de la revista es publicar investigaciones de alta calidad que generen interés por formular políticas públicas y apoyar a encargados de tomar decisiones organizacionales, profesionales de recursos humanos y defensores de los trabajadores mayores por las implicaciones políticas que conllevan estos documentos. Work, Aging and Retirement fomenta una perspectiva internacional, publicando investigaciones y hallazgos de varios países, regiones y entidades que se rigen por diferentes políticas socioeconómicas.

Para Ignacio, la importancia de estos proyectos y de su participación en esta iniciativa es que se desarrolla el conocimiento y que hay personas más competentes en diversas áreas del conocimiento, lo que se traduce en un aumento de recursos y desarrollo de los tópicos que trabaja la revista.

Ignacio señala que “el punto de que las personas continúen trabajando en etapas tardías es que se vuelva relevante y Chile no es la excepción, aún hay mucho por conocer y yo me he interesado en entender algunos aspectos económicos y de la salud mental”.
