IPC registró una variación de -0,1% en mayo

El Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas (INE) informó esta mañana que el Índice de Precios al Consumidor (IPC) anotó una negativa variación en el mes de mayo, el cual estuvo marcado por la crisis sanitaria generada por el coronavirus en el país y las medidas adoptadas para contenerla, como las cuarentenas. Así, en el quinto mes del año la inflación cayó 0,1%, acumulando una variación de 1,3% en lo que va de 2020 y un alza de 2,8% en doce meses, ubicándose dentro del rango de tolerancia del Banco Central, el cual se sitúa entre el 2% y 4%.                                                                                                                        Cabe destacar que la previsión del mercado, según la última Encuesta de Expectativas Económicas, era que la inflación anotara una nula variación (0%). De acuerdo al INE, seis de las doce divisiones que conforman la canasta del IPC aportaron incidencias negativas en la variación mensual del índice y seis presentaron incidencias positivas. Entre las divisiones con descensos en sus precios destacó transporte (-0,6%) con -0,080 puntos porcentuales (pp.) y restaurantes y hoteles (-0,7%) con -0,043 pp. La caída de 0,1% de mayo se trata del primer registro negativo para el IPC desde diciembre de 2018, cuando también disminuyó 0,1% Las restantes divisiones que influyeron negativamente contribuyeron con -0,047 pp., en conjunto. A su vez, entre las divisiones que consignaron alzas mensuales en sus precios destacó equipamiento y mantención del hogar (0,5%), que incidió 0,034 pp.                                                                                                                           Productos con principales variaciones                   Entre las principales bajas de precios que se registraron en mayo, destacó la caída mensual de 3% de la Gasolina, aportando -0,082 pp. a la variación del indicador general. Dicho producto acumuló una baja de 5,4% al quinto mes del año y de 2,1% a doce meses. Por su parte, la Carne de pollo registró un descenso de 5,2%, con una incidencia de 0,046 pp. y variaciones de -4,7% en 2020 y de -1,4% interanual. Respecto al Servicio de alojamiento turístico, cayó un 8,8% mensual, con 0,042 pp., acumulando un descenso de 11,3% en lo que va del año y de 12% a doce meses.                                                                                                                          . Por el lado de las subidas, el INE destacó la de la Carne de vacuno que consignó un aumento mensual de 2% con una incidencia de 0,039 pp., registrando una variación de 6,8% en lo que va del año y de 12% a doce meses. Asimismo, los Cigarrillos también registraron un alza en su valor, específicamente de 1,7% en mayo, aportando con 0,034 pp. al IPC y acumulando una subida de 3,6% en 2020 y de 7% en un año.
