La deportista chilena Francisca Mardones alcanzó la segunda medalla de oro para nuestro país en los Juegos Paralímpicos de Tokio 2020 con récord mundial en el lanzamiento de la bala, clase F54.
La nacional logró un impresionante registro de 8,33 metros en su sexto intento, con el que superó ampliamente a la mexicana Gloria Zarza, medalla de plata con 8,06 metros, y a la uzbeka Nurkhon Kurbanova, que se adjudicó el bronce con 7,77 metros.
La presea de Mardones se suma a las dos que logró Alberto Abarza en natación: Una de oro en los 100 metros y otra de plata en los 200 metros, ambos por la categoría S2.
