Experto indica que policía acusado de asfixiar a George Floyd usó «fuerza mortal»
El expolicía Derek Chauvin usó “fuerza mortal” cuando apretó su rodilla durante varios minutos sobre el cuello del afroamericano George Floyd. Así lo afirmó este miércoles el sargento Jody Stiger ante una corte de Minneapolis.
Stiger, que testificó en calidad de experto independiente en el juicio contra Chauvin, argumentó que las acciones del exagente constituyeron un uso excesivo de la fuerza. Esto, porque Floyd no se estaba resistiendo, sino que estaba tendido en el suelo y esposado con las manos en la espalda.
Además, opinó que “no se debería haber usado ninguna fuerza” cuando Floyd ya había sido inmovilizado.
Stiger es uno de los expertos en técnicas policiales a los que ha llamado a testificar esta semana la Fiscalía de Minnesota para intentar demostrar que Chauvin violó los protocolos policiales.
El Departamento de Policía de Mineápolis establece que la “fuerza mortal” solo debe ser usada como último recurso. Esto, ya que puede provocar la muerte de la persona a la que se está intentando neutralizar.
Hoy se celebra la octava jornada del juicio por la muerte de Floyd, que provocó hace un año las mayores protestas contra el racismo en EE.UU.
Floyd perdió la vida el 25 de mayo de 2020 cuando cuatro agentes intentaron detenerlo por haber utilizado un billete falso para pagar en una tienda.
Durante su arresto, Chauvin lo inmovilizó en el suelo presionando la rodilla contra su cuello hasta que dejó de respirar.
Sin embargo, solo podría ser condenado a un máximo de 16 años y medio de prisión por todos los cargos que se le imputan.
