Expedición alemana a Ojos del Salado obtuvo nuevo récord mundial de altura en automóvil 4×4
Un Unimog del tipo U 5023 del equipo alemán Extrem Events ha batido el récord mundial de altura alcanzando los 6.694 metros y eso después de un año y medio de preparación. Sin embargo, el objetivo principal de la campaña era instalar un sistema de cuatro unidades de radio de emergencia en las cercanías de la montaña volcánica Ojos del Salado. Este sistema está destinado a mejorar significativamente la seguridad tanto para los montañeros como para los científicos del Departamento de Geología de la Facultad de Ingenieria de la Universidad de Atacama, que están explorando el volcán, el sistema de glaciares de la montaña y también tomando muestras de rocas, arena y vapor en los alrededores del cráter principal.
Durante estos días el equipo tuvo que soportar una temperaturas de 10ºC durante el día y -28ºC durante la noche así como fuertes rachas de viento algunas cercanas a los 100 km/h.
Después de alcanzar el objetivo principal de establecer la instalacion de las emisoras para llamadas de emergencia, el equipo se volvió hacia otro hito: el récord mundial de altura para vehículos con ruedas.

Récord que Matthias Jeschke ya había intentado con un Toyota Land Cruiser el año 2005, con un Jeep el año 2007 y con un camión Mercedes Benz Zetros el año2014.
