La vacuna rusa Sputnik V tiene una eficacia de 91,6% frente al COVID-19 en sus manifestaciones sintomáticas, según un análisis de los ensayos clínicos publicado el martes por la revista médica The Lancet y validado por expertos independientes.
Esta vacuna ya se administra en Rusia y en otros países, como Argentina y Argelia.
“El desarrollo de la vacuna Sputnik V fue criticado por su precipitación, el hecho de que se saltó etapas y por una ausencia de transparencia. Pero los resultados aportados son claros y el principio científico de esta vacuna quedó demostrado”, estimaron dos expertos británicos, los profesores Ian Jones y Polly Roy, en un comentario publicado junto al estudio.
Esto “quiere decir que una vacuna suplementaria puede unirse al combate para reducir la incidencia del COVID-19”, según los investigadores.
Estos primeros resultados verificados corroboran las afirmaciones iniciales de Rusia, acogidas con desconfianza a finales del año pasado por la comunidad científica internacional.
Sputnik V se situaría así entre las vacunas más eficaces, junto a las de Pfizer/BioNTech y Moderna (alrededor de 95%).
