Estudio de universidades: contagiados en la RM abarcan al 13% y no al 4,1% registrado por el Minsal
Preocupación existe por parte de autoridades y especialistas por la situación de la Región Metropolitana frente al Covid-19. Este sábado, tres comunas de la zona —Lo Espejo, San Joaquín y La Granja— retrocedieron a la fase de Transición, por lo que regresa el confinamiento, al menos durante el fin de semana, en estos sectores del sur de la capital.
A esto se suman los dichos del ministro Enrique Paris, quien señaló en un reportaje televisivo que “si viene una segunda ola va a ser mucho más grande. De hecho, sólo para Santiago pronosticamos que podemos llegar a tener entre 5 mil y 7 mil casos de Covid, que fue lo que tuvimos en todo el país”.
Durante esta jornada se dio a conocer un informe encabezado por la Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD), en un trabajo conjunto con las universidades de Talca y Católica del Norte. El análisis estima que un 13% de la población de la RM ha sido infectada con el Covid-19. Dicho estudio se ha realizado dos veces en la región: en abril-julio y al final de la primera ola. La segunda etapa se inició el 26 de septiembre y consideró la revaluación de la misma población incluida en la primera ronda.

El análisis involucró a 1.376 personas, de las cuales 182 dieron positivo al coronavirus, lo que corresponde al 13,3% de la población muestral. Las mencionadas universidades contrastaron estos resultados con la información oficial del Ministerio de Salud, que indica que “hay 289.517 individuos confirmados en el mismo periodo, lo que corresponde a un 4,1% de la población del territorio estudiado“.
“Aquí estamos detectando no sólo los casos que tienen síntomas y acuden al médico, sino que también a los asintomáticos y aquellos que no consultan, que tienen síntomas leves”, señaló al matutino el virólogo de la UDD y uno de los autores del análisis, Pablo Vial.
El experto agregó que “es importante que si llegáramos a una vacuna, aún necesitaríamos muchas dosis para alcanzar una inmunidad comunitaria, porque tenemos un porcentaje bajo de gente que se ha infectado de forma natural”.
Eugenio Guzmán, decano de la Facultad de Gobierno de la UDD, advirtió que “no sabemos si habrá una segunda ola. En ese sentido, en estos meses de verano hay que seguir con las medidas para evitar un brote fuerte en espera de la vacuna“.
