Economía nacional se contrae 1,2% en octubre y acumula ocho meses de caídas pese a positivas proyecciones del mercado

La economía chilena cayó 1,2% en octubre de 2020, en comparación al mismo mes del año pasado, según el Índicador Mensual de Actividad Económica (Imacec) dado a conocer ayer por el Banco Central.
La cifra no cumplió con las expectativas del mercado, que esperaba que el décimo mes del año marcara el primer dato positivo desde febrero (3,3%), acumulando así ocho meses consecutivos de retrocesos.
Eso sí, esta ha sido la menor caída desde el inicio de la pandemia y la segunda consecutiva por debajo de los dos dígitos.
Sin embargo, la base de comparación era baja, y es que en octubre de 2019 -en medio del estallido social- la economía del país se contrajo 3,9%, de ahí gran parte del optimismo del mercado para este Imacec, donde algunos analistas incluso hablaban de que podía anotar un alza de hasta 3%. En tanto, según lo informado por el Central, la serie desestacionalizada en el Imacec de octubre de 2020 disminuyó 0,5% respecto del mes precedente y cayó 0,9% en doce meses.
El mes registró un día hábil menos que en el mismo mes de 2019. Además, añadió que «el resultado del Imacec se vio impactado por los efectos de la emergencia sanitaria asociada al COVID-19, que influyó en la movilidad de las personas y el normal funcionamiento de establecimientos productivos». En este contexto, las actividades que explicaron la caída fueron los servicios y la producción de bienes, con disminuciones de 4,9% y 1,3%, respectivamente. En contraste, el comercio creció 17%, contribuyendo positivamente al resultado. En tanto, la caída del Imacec desestacionalizado fue explicada por el desempeño de los servicios, compensado parcialmente por la producción de bienes.
