UE mantiene apuesta por plasma sanguíneo en busca de terapia contra el covid-19
La Unión Europea quiere acelerar la financiación para tratar a los pacientes del covid-19 con plasma sanguíneo extraído de sobrevivientes, según un documento al que tuvo acceso Reuters que revela la creciente confianza del bloque en el tratamiento experimental. La decisión subraya también el enfoque más activo que está adoptando el grupo de 27 naciones en la carrera para hallar medicamentos y vacunas efectivos contra el coronavirus.
La Comisión Europea, brazo ejecutivo de la UE, ha invitado a autoridades nacionales en el sector de la sangre para que participen hasta el 10 de julio en un aporte de emergencia para impulsar su recogida de plasma de personas que se curaron del covid-19. Los fondos -que pueden proceder del Instrumento de Apoyo de Emergencia (ESI, por sus siglas en inglés)- podrían ser usados para comprar equipos para extraer, almacenar y probar este plasma.
