La historia del libro podría resumirse así: a punto de cumplir 50 años de edad, un precoz seguidor de Iron Maiden a quien de adolescente apodan “Eddie” («mascota» de la banda), por el parecido que tendría con ese personaje al envejecer, recuerda aquel segundo “bautizo” una noche de insomnio. Sale a vagar sin rumbo por las calles de una ciudad a medio hundir tras un aluvión de lodo, basura y sustancias químicas, mientras reconstruye su vida desde el momento que parece haber sellado a fuego su destino. Sin embargo, antes de que amanezca, descubrirá que su transformación física en Eddie T. Head es mucho más que una profecía cumplida.
La novela está estructurada en 16 capítulos introducidos por los versos de una canción de cada uno de sus discos, respectiva y cronológicamente, y surgió a raíz de los encuentros personales que su autor tuvo con Steve Harris y otros miembros de la banda durante sus dos visitas a Chile en el marco de su célebre gira mundial “Somewhere back in time 2008-2009”, que quedó registrada en el documental “Flight 666”.
Más que un libro, “Eddie” El Fan es un viaje desde los ’80 hasta nuestros días y un homenaje a esa banda inglesa de quien su autor -antes que periodista, escritor y guionista de cine y TV-, es fan desde 1983. En él, la travesía del protagonista no sólo es un viaje interno a través de los recuerdos sobre los principales hitos de su vida, sino también de las canciones, discos y anécdotas en torno a su banda favorita.
