El Servicio Nacional del Consumidor (Sernac) presentó una demanda colectiva contra Walmart y SMU, con el fin de obtener compensaciones por la colusión en el precio de los pollos, que se extendió entre los años 2008 y 2011.
De acuerdo al comunicado de la repartición, interpuso la acción judicial después de que no se alcanzara un acuerdo en el marco del procedimiento voluntario colectivo que se extendió por meses, pues las empresas presentaron propuestas calificadas como «insatisfactorias» al no acatar un rango establecido por economistas externos «para cuantificar el monto del daño provocado a los consumidores».
En concreto, Walmart, firma de la que dependen los supermercados Lider, «sólo estuvo disponible a compensar por un piso mínimo basado en un informe propio, y dado los cálculos recomendados, fue insuficiente», mientras que «el plazo del procedimiento voluntario colectivo venció hoy sin una propuesta» desde SMU, a la que pertenece Unimarc.
