“Eddie”, El Fan: una historia inspirada en la música de la banda inglesa y en su personaje creado por Derek Riggs, es la primera novela del mundo escrita a propósito de ambos referentes. Puede ser adquirida en formato digital en Amazon (Kindle) desde su sitio web (www.eddieelfan.net).  La segunda novela del escritor copiapino, Mauricio Illanes Naranjo, transcurre mayoritariamente en Copiapó tras el aluvión del 25 de marzo del 2015 y rescata varios pasajes de nuestra historia regional.

La historia se resume de la siguiente manera: a pocos días de cumplir 50 años de edad, un precoz seguidor de Iron Maiden, quien de adolescente es apodado “Eddie” por el parecido que tendría con la “mascota” de ese grupo al envejecer, recuerda aquel “bautizo” una noche de insomnio. Sale a vagar sin rumbo por una ciudad a medio hundir tras un aluvión de agua, barro, basura y sustancias químicas, mientras reconstruye su vida desde el momento que parece haber sellado a fuego su destino. Sin embargo, antes de que amanezca, ese envejecido fan descubrirá que su progresiva transformación física en Eddie T. Head con los años, es mucho más que una extraña casualidad.

El libro comenzó a ser distribuido en forma impresa desde ese mismo sitio web a contar de noviembre del año pasado, pero las diversas restricciones impuestas por la pandemia global producto del Covid 19 obligaron a su autor a adaptarlo a formato digital y a comercializarlo a través de Amazon (Kindle) hasta que las condiciones cambien y permitan volver hacerlo en su formato tradicional.

“Pese a que no he podido realizar ninguna actividad de lanzamiento del libro en Copiapó ni en Santiago, debido al ‘estallido social’, luego el verano y ahora las circunstancias impuestas por el Corona Virus, quise esperar al mes de mayo para lanzar globalmente su versión digital. Este es un mes muy especial para Iron Maiden y para todos sus fans del mundo: es el del lanzamiento de su noveno disco (Fear of the dark, 11), cuya gira promocional los haría debutar en Chile el 28 de julio (1992). Es el de su consagración definitiva como la más grande banda de heavy metal del mundo con su cuarto disco (Piece of mind, 16) y el de su ‘resurrección’ con su duodécimo álbum (Brave new world, 29), gracias al regreso de su vocalista y guitarrista clásicos, Bruce Dickinson y Adrian Smith, respectivamente, por lo que desde el año 2000 el grupo es un sexteto”, explica el autor de la historia, Mauricio Illanes Naranjo, quien es fan de los británicos desde 1983.

El libro está estructurado en 16 capítulos, tal como el número de discos que componen la discografía de Iron Maiden, por lo que cada uno de ellos parte con una breve cita a una canción del disco respectivo que sirve para contextualizar el relato de cada episodio.

“Ese mismo número de fans insistió en llevarse una copia de muestra del libro cuando aún no estaba terminado y fue adelantado al público en la primera Expo Maiden. Organizada por un grupo de fans en Santiago el 1° de junio del año pasado, tuvo gran convocatoria. También es la cantidad de temas tocados por la banda en cada show de su última gira, Legacy of the beast, que en octubre los trajo por novena vez a Chile, luego de actuar en Europa el 2018 y desde julio del 2019 en Canadá, EE.UU., México, Brasil y Argentina”, explica el autor de la novela, quien además es dramaturgo y guionista de cine y televisión, y busca producir y dirigir sus propios guiones escritos para la pantalla grande.
