Mantos Copper da luz verde a Ausenco para Proyecto de Desarrollo Mantoverde
*La firma australiana se adjudicó la construcción de una nueva planta concentradora de cobre bajo una modalidad innovadora dentro del mercado minero chileno: contrato EPC a suma alzada y llave en mano. Claudio Lesch, presidente de Sudamérica, revela las proyecciones de la compañía.
La empresa australiana especializada en ingeniería y construcción, Ausenco, ya cuenta con la orden por parte de Mantos Cooper para proceder de manera total en el Proyecto de Desarrollo Mantoverde, ubicado en la Región de Atacama.
El contrato contempla la construcción de una concentradora de cobre, de 30.000 ton/día, y toda la infraestructura relacionada, lo que incluye la planta de procesos, la ampliación de la desalinizadora y un tranque de relaves.
“En diciembre de 2020 firmamos un contrato EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) con Mantos Copper. Es un contrato a suma alzada y llave en mano. Por lo tanto, es un hito y un gran honor por ser una modalidad innovadora en Chile”, señala Claudio Lesch, presidente para Sudamérica de Ausenco.
Lesch asevera que Ausenco no solo será responsable del diseño, las compras, la construcción y el comisionamiento de Mantoverde, sino que además tendrá a su cargo la puesta en marcha y la entrega a Operaciones.
Con una inversión de más de US$846 millones, Mantos Copper extenderá la vida útil de su yacimiento hasta el año 2041, y de paso reducirá costos operacionales.
El contrato EPC, que fue adjudicado a Ausenco, tendrá un plazo de ejecución de 36 meses y considera un diseño de ingeniería eficiente, costos de operaciones reducidos y menores emisiones de carbono.
Para Lesch, Mantoverde es un claro ejemplo de la tendencia hacia el alto dinamismo que presenta hoy la mediana minería en Chile. “Hoy participamos además en estudios para el proyecto El Espino de Pucobre, en la Región de Coquimbo; Puquios de Cuprum Resources, en la misma zona; y Marimaca de Marimaca Copper, cerca de Mejillones”, precisa.
“En los últimos seis meses hemos visto gran demanda de estudios para el desarrollo de proyectos, los que resultan más atractivos ante el incremento del precio del cobre y oro; y las mejores condiciones en los mercados financieros”, revela.
