Educar en tiempos de pandemia, no tiene límites
Junta de Valeriano tiene una población de más de 100 habitantes. Es un villorrio rural localizado al interior del Valle de El Tránsito, en la Provincia de Huasco, distante a 25 km al interior de la comuna de Alto del Carmen y a 70 km al este de la ciudad de Vallenar, en el último kilómetro de la Ruta C-495. Es el primer pueblo de cordillera a mar, donde comienza el Valle de Huasco.
El poblado está en plena Cordillera de Los Andes, a unos 1.800 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Sus habitantes gozan su vida rodeados de una naturaleza privilegiada, ajenos a los ruidos o congestiones vehiculares que reinan en las grandes ciudades. En ese mágico entorno se ubica la Escuela “Sara Cruz Alvallay”, llamada así en honor a la primera profesora de esta alejada zona rural, perteneciente al Servicio Local de Educación Pública de Huasco, y actualmente, Cicilia Gatica Rodríguez y Claudia Ojeda Ángulo son las profesoras que cumplen la labor docente con los 18 estudiantes del establecimiento.
La gran mayoría de los niños y niñas viven lejos del villorrio, pero durante el año lectivo sus familias se trasladan a vivir al pueblo, para derribar la barrera de la distancia y así lograr más fácilmente la asistencia diaria a clases y en tiempos de receso, la gran mayoría regresa al campo para el reencuentro con la naturaleza.
La escuela es multigrado y cuenta con dos aulas, una multicancha, un comedor y una cocina, infraestructura a la que le dan vida las risas, el correr, el convivir, los cantos, las lecciones de estos niños que cursan entre 1ro y 6to básico; estudiantes y no alumnos, es lo primero que nos comenta la profesora Cicilia Gatica, enseñándonos que existe un mito que sostiene que el vocablo alumno significaría en realidad ‘sin luz’, y luz es lo que les sobra en Valeriano.
Con la llegada del COVID_19 la escuela quedó vacía. La pandemia obligó la suspensión de las clases presenciales por parte del Ministerio de Educación, como una medida de protección de la salud de las comunidades educativas y para evitar posibles contagios al interior de los establecimientos educacionales del país. Pero para que los procesos educativos de los estudiantes resultaran lo menos perjudicados en este período, que hasta el día de hoy no permite las clases presenciales, el Mineduc adoptó una serie de medidas apoyados en la tecnología, la televisión y en guías impresas. Precisamente, éstas últimas dirigidas especialmente a las escuelas rurales como la de Junta de Valeriano, para asegurar que cada niño, joven y adulto pueda continuar sus estudios en medio de esta emergencia sanitaria.
Es en este punto, donde han salido a relucir las innovadoras ideas que los docentes de Atacama han adoptado para poder continuar con sus labores. A través de distintos medios como el uso de redes sociales, mails o WhatsApp, han continuado dictando clases, respondiendo consultas, entregando guías, entre otros. Los ejemplos de cómo la vocación se sobrepone incluso a estos tiempos de pandemia, para continuar con su labor educativa, sobran en nuestra región.
Como la vocación de Cicilia, una de las profesoras de este poblado rural ubicado el último rincón del Valle de Huasco. No importaron las distancias ni las condiciones climáticas, no dudó en trasladarse caminando, en vehículo y a caballo para llegar a los hogares de sus niños y niñas en plena cordillera. Cada mañana carga los caballos con guías, libros, pero principalmente con amor para apoyar en el cuidado de la salud mental de sus estudiantes y sus familias.
Su día laboral lo divide en dos visitas, una en la mañana y otra en la tarde, para trabajar tranquilamente con un estudiante a la vez. Su semana no sabe sábado o domingo ni de descanso, con una cuota de sacrificio y vocación, cabalga por casi dos horas para llegar a los lugares más remotos. Acá lo vital es retroalimentar los aprendizajes de sus estudiantes en zonas donde no cuentan con televisión, teléfono celular o internet; una realidad distinta en Valeriano, que sólo hace una década cuentan con electricidad, hace 6 años pueden disfrutar de la señal de televisión por cable y sólo han transcurrido dos años desde que llegó la conectividad de la telefonía celular.
Todas las semanas, junto a su colega, preparan el material de trabajo, apoyándose en la página “Aprendo en línea” y en los textos de “Aprendo en casa”, que el Mineduc dispuso especialmente para las escuelas rurales. “Cuando comenzó todo esto, pensamos que sólo sería por pocos días, pero no ha sido así. Con mi colega nos comenzamos a organizarnos para apoyar a nuestros 18 niños y niñas, con el material que el Ministerio ha enviado para estos fines. Decidimos dividirnos el trabajo, mi colega que por temas familiares no se encuentra en la localidad y es la encargada de preparar el material y yo la labor en terreno”, comienza contando la docente.
Pero para acceder a estos lugares remotos había que disponer de transporte, propuesta que nace desde los propios padres y apoderados al ofrecer caballos para que Cicilia todos los sábados y domingos viajara durante casi por dos horas hasta el interior de la cordillera donde están las familias más alejadas. “Los apoderados, especialmente el Centro de Padres, me preguntaron si era factible que un día a la semana yo hiciera las clases en sus casas, a lo que accedí feliz. Nos organizamos para que pudiera trabajar con dos alumnos al día, uno en la mañana y otro en la tarde. Así nace esta experiencia que ha sido muy enriquecedora para todos”.
En las majadas más distantes, ubicadas a unos 35 kilómetros de Valeriano, la jornada comienza cerca de las 10 de la mañana con la contención emocional de los niños y niñas. Toda la familia se reúne entorno a un mate y al pan amasado recién horneado, para iniciar la labor psicoemocional, la que se va mezclado con las vivencias, el relato de las tradiciones y las historias de cómo están viviendo esta contingencia desde un lugar apartado, que alegremente van contando los más ancianos como Fermín, Mirtha, Vicente y Marina.
Llegada la hora de comenzar con la lección del día, la que es muy didáctica gracias al ingenio de la profesional, que usa los elementos del medio local para explicar los contenidos. “En la cordillera no se usan las mesas, así que nos acomodamos en las piedras o en el suelo, trabajamos con lo que nos ofrece el entorno, por ejemplo, usamos las patas o las orejas de las cabras para las tablas de multiplicar, para las familias de los miles usamos las vainas de los churques, para que sea más fácil aprender para los niños”, explicó la docente.
“En lo personal, esta ha sido una experiencia enriquecedora y maravillosa. El poder llegar al corazón de la familia como el aprovechar la naturaleza para que el aprender en casa de nuestros estudiantes, acompañados de su profesora, les permita seguir desarrollándose. Soy una convencida que todos los niños, estén donde estén, teniendo los recursos, en este caso naturales y aunque nos instalemos en el suelo, en una piedra o donde sea, aprendan a multiplicar usando cabras o caballos, todos tienen las mismas oportunidades de aprender, por eso la decisión de acompañarlos y llegar a las zonas más alejadas, tiene tanto significado para mí como profesional”, enfatiza Cicilia Gatica.
Pero para que esta verdadera travesía por la educación fuera exitosa, necesitaba de la complicidad y apoyo de muchos, comenzando por los padres, los estudiantes, la vocación de Cicilia. “Son muchos los que nos han apoyado, el SLEP Huasco que no sólo se preocupa de proveer los materiales que envía el Mineduc, sino que incluso se preocupa de las herraduras para los caballos, la alcaldesa Carmen Bou, quien pese a que ya no somos una escuela municipal, siempre está pendiente de lo que necesitamos, la jefa del Departamento Provincial de Educación que ha estado en constante comunicación durante este período. Incluso un exalumno me ha acompañado cuando he tenido que cargar una mula para llevar las canastas de alimentación de Junaeb, es decir, acá todos han remado para que nuestros niños, pese a las distancias y las dificultades geográficas, no se queden atrás tanto en lo educativo como en los beneficios que ha entregado el Ministerio”.
El reconocimiento a esta labor también llega de una de las integrantes del Centro de Padres, Apoderados y Familia de la Escuela “Sara Cruz Alvallay”, Juana Huanchicay, quien aseguró que “para nuestros hijos e hijas ha sido muy importante, en estos momentos difíciles que estamos viviendo como país, que la profesora Cicilia llegue a cada una de nuestras casas, aunque sean lejanas, para apoyarlos, no sólo en enseñarles sino también en contenerlos emocionalmente”.
Conocida la historia de esta docente, la Seremi de Educación Silvia Álvarez Matthews, destacó que “este ha sido un año de aprendizaje para todos, y especialmente para nuestros profesores que han debido adaptarse a las nuevas condiciones para poder continuar educando a los niños, jóvenes y adultos. Como Ministerio nos llena de orgullo conocer la destacada labor que están desarrollando donde el ingenio de nuestros maestros está siendo ejemplar. La labor que realiza la profesora Cicilia Gatica es doblemente meritoria y destacable porque además debe sortear la geografía y las distancias lejanas para acceder a sus alumnos y definitivamente, este es el espíritu mayoritario de nuestros docentes”.
El 13 de marzo fue el último día que las aulas recibieron, escucharon y cobijaron a las comunidades educativas del país. Desde ese día el timbre no volvió a sonar para iniciar o terminar una jornada. Desde ese día las clases se trasladaron a las casas en las zonas urbanas y rurales. Y desde ese día para muchos profesores, educar en tiempos de pandemia no ha tenido límites.
