Diego Hernández (Sonami) y aprobación de Dominga: “Es un paso significativo y va en la dirección correcta”
El presidente de la Sociedad Nacional de Minería (Sonami), Diego Hernández, manifestó su satisfacción por la decisión de la Comisión de Evaluación Ambiental de Coquimbo de aprobar el proyecto minero portuario Dominga, que contempla una inversión de más de US$2.500 millones.
“Es una decisión que nos complace, particularmente en el caso de un proyecto que ha vivido tantas vicisitudes en su tramitación, que ya se extiende por casi 8 años”, expresó el líder gremial.
Junto con ello, sostuvo que “como lo hemos reiterado en diversas ocasiones, Dominga ha pasado por un excesivo periodo de tramitación y que, no obstante, haber cumplido con todas las exigencias que la autoridad ambiental le ha hecho, después de diversos procesos considerados en la legislación, aún no cuenta con la certeza de que pueda llegar a materializarse, ya que seguramente los opositores insistirán en impedir su materialización”.

El directivo agregó que “Sonami siempre ha planteado la necesidad de revisar los procedimientos que se habían adoptado en el caso de este proyecto minero y, en ese sentido, valoramos que lo haya hecho la Comisión de Evaluación Ambiental. Es un paso significativo y va en la dirección correcta”
“No cabe duda de que esta decisión del ente ambiental, abre una puerta para su ejecución, especialmente considerando que la minería jugará un rol clave e insustituible en el periodo post pandemia, como lo ha hecho hasta ahora, pero es fundamental otorgar las certezas necesarias”, concluyó el presidente de la gremial.
