Actualmente, en nuestro país, más de 650.000 personas trabajan en la industria minera y en las actividades económicas vinculadas a ella. En las regiones de la macrozona norte, el empleo minero directo e indirecto alcanza el 30%.
La Región de Atacama es parte importante de este tejido minero. Por ejemplo, es responsable del 9% de la producción de cobre chileno (unas 530.000 toneladas anuales) y cuenta con la presencia activa de las compañías de la gran minería privada junto con un intensa actividad de la mediana y pequeña minería, además de la participación del Estado por medio de Codelco y Enami.

¿Qué desafíos tiene la minería hacia delante en un contexto de grandes transformaciones? ¿La minería seguirá siendo el pilar económico de Chile? ¿Cómo fortalecer la relación entre el conjunto del país y esta actividad? Estas y otras consideraciones tienen más de 50 entidades que recientemente se han unido para fundar la Red Compromiso Minero (www.compromisominero.cl).

La nueva agrupación tiene el objetivo de que la ciudadanía conozca más de cerca lo que hay detrás de la industria minera, así como la serie de actores que se vinculan y contribuyen en el desarrollo tanto del sector, como del país. En ese sentido, sus integrantes tienen el propósito de que las personas comprendan el compromiso que esta actividad tiene con Chile y sus personas, especialmente en continuar avanzando hacia el desarrollo sustentable.

Atacama será una de las regiones protagonistas de esta red por medio de empresas y organizaciones presentes en la región, tales como CORPROA, Candelaria, Caserones, Codelco, CMP, Gold Fields, entre otras. En este contexto, Compromiso Minero es el resultado del trabajo de diferentes organizaciones que han aunado voluntades para dar a conocer su aporte al país.

Compromisos
De acuerdo con los fundamentos de Compromiso Minero, la red promoverá una mirada de largo plazo hacia ha sustentabilidad. Esto se expresará en distintos ejes y en la voluntad de seguir aportando al crecimiento económico, al desarrollo social del país, de las comunidades y regiones mineras, y al cuidado del patrimonio natural, del medio ambiente y de los recursos naturales.                                                   Temáticamente se busca avanzar en:

** Manejo de relaves de los más altos estándares ** Minería y metales para un mundo más sustentable

Diversas han sido las reacciones y opiniones frente a esta importante instancia que representa Compromiso Minero:
Daniel Llorente, presidente de CORPROA: “Buscamos que los proveedores desarrollen una capacidad empresarial que les permita expandirse”
La Corporación para el Desarrollo de la Región de Atacama  es una de las entidades fundadoras de esta nueva red. Según su presidente, Daniel Llorente, “en momentos en que el país está definiendo su futuro, quienes formamos parte de Compromiso Minero queremos contribuir con nuestra mirada, experiencia y conocimiento a este proceso de diálogo. Queremos mostrar lo que somos, nuestros avances y así establecer una estrategia que le permita a la minería y al ecosistema que se vincula a ella sintonizar con un objetivo común al que todos tenemos mucho que aportar”.
Para Llorente, en esta nueva etapa que se inicia, se realizará un trabajo con los proveedores locales de la minería. “La actividad minera tiene un fuerte encadenamiento con otros sectores productivos, principalmente formado por proveedores de bienes y servicios. Por ejemplo, sabemos que por cada 100 pesos de valor económico que genera la minería, otros 78 pesos son generados por sus proveedores, principalmente en sectores como la construcción, servicios empresariales e industria”, analiza el líder gremial.
En este sentido, plantea que “lejos de pretender que los proveedores creen una relación de dependencia con las empresas mineras, el objetivo es que desarrollen una capacidad empresarial que les permita expandirse hacia otras actividades y así sentar una base productiva más amplia y sostenible en las regiones”.
Asimismo, Llorente sostiene que “aportar a la calidad de vida y el desarrollo sostenible tanto de las comunidades cercanas como de la ciudadanía fuera de la zona minera, es parte del compromiso de este sector. Generar valor para todas las personas que conviven en un territorio, en línea con sus prioridades e intereses, con una mirada colaborativa, integral y estable en el tiempo”.

Loreto Muñoz, Red de Ingenieras de Minas (RIM): “Hay un compromiso en seguir impulsando la incorporación femenina”
Loreto Muñoz Amigo, Líder del eje Representación Minera de la Red de Ingenieras de Minas de Chile (RIM), organización que forma parte de Compromiso Minero, comenta que “son las personas y sus talentos los que generan valor a Chile. La conformación de esta iniciativa se basa en relevar esto mismo, son ellas las que están en el centro de la actividad minera y del ecosistema que se le vincula”.
La profesional añade que el compromiso del sector es el de seguir incrementando la participación de mujeres en la industria minera. “Según el último Estudio de Fuerza Laboral de la gran minería del Consejo de Competencias Mineras, la participación femenina en el sector minero alcanza un 11,8%, frente al 7,1% de hace una década. En este sentido, quisiera resaltar que este año el Gobierno y empresas mineras, proveedoras y asociaciones gremiales, firmaron un nuevo compromiso para seguir impulsando la incorporación femenina en la industria, introduciendo mecanismos de medición”, señala.

En ese sentido, Briceño resalta la labor que está desarrollando la industria para apoyar el desarrollo de proveedores locales. “Varias empresas mineras cuentan con plataformas digitales para favorecer el acceso de proveedores de sus respectivas regiones, donde entregan información de sus requerimientos y establecen reglas de contratación conocidas. Asimismo, cada vez más se está reportando el porcentaje de proveedores locales y las compras a estos, como una señal de compromiso”.
