Comunidad Diaguita Yupanky: La medicina ancestral indígena del Valle de Copiapó a través de un libro

“Plantas Medicinales Diaguitas: Wua Sisiyi Diaguita” es el nombre del libro que trabaja la comunidad Yupanky. Una publicación que recoge distintos usos de hierbas presentes en Atacama y que saldrá a circulación durante este 2022 gracias a fondos aportados por el Programa Especial de Salud y Pueblos Indígenas, del Ministerio de Salud. 

Conocer los distintos usos de las plantas medicinales presentes en el Valle de Copiapó es el objetivo del libro del que ya afinan los últimos detalles en la comunidad diaguita Yupanki, una agrupación que se ubica en terrenos ancestrales al interior del sector de Placilla Morales, en la capital regional. Esta publicación retrata las distintas preparaciones de hierbas para el cuidado de la salud que las y los integrantes de esta comunidad mantienen.

El libro saldrá a circulación durante este 2022 gracias a fondos aportados por el Programa Especial de Salud y Pueblos Indígenas, PESPI del Ministerio de Salud y es publicado por el sello editorial Tierra Culta. La publicación de 104 páginas además cuenta con una serie de imágenes de las y los integrantes de la comunidad Yupanky. 

Sobre el libro y su importancia, Karen Aravena Álvarez Maychikua de la comunidad Yupanki indicó: “Estos son pasos importantes porque la idea es animar a otras comunidades y otros hermanos para que tengan pertenencia del conocimiento de las distintas generaciones, darle importancia a las ancianas, qué preparan, cómo hacen sus preparaciones qué le echan a las comidas; estar bien con tu mente, tus ojos y tu alma. No dejemos atrás nuestra historia que es ancestral, pero también es presente. Es importante para mí el entregar este libro. De esta manera podemos ayudar a otras comunidades y a hermanos que no están en comunidad que sepan que hay personas que son de su pueblo y cuidan su cultura. Queremos que aprecien sus plantas, sus territorios, que no se pierda el entorno. Hoy todo son parras, no tenemos algarrobos y muchas de esas plantas perdidas son vitales para nuestra salud”.

El libro contiene alternativas para paliar y resolver algunas dolencias físicas, las cuales pueden bajar su intensidad de dolor con sencillas preparaciones que se comparten a fin de de  hacer abrir el legado histórico del pueblo diaguita, reconociendo la experiencia y destreza de este grupo humano. El libro contiene más de 70 especies que son usadas en la actualidad, pero también otras que fueron de uso común en la antigüedad, cuando los ecosistemas locales no estaban tan afectados.
