Casa de Acogida celebra 38 años de existencia al servicio del adulto mayor
Con una gran sorpresa, como fue la visita de la Banda del Regimiento Copiapó, que entregó un gran repertorio, fue celebrado el 38° aniversario de la Casa de Acogida Dama Blanca de La Paz, instancia que acoge a una docena de adultos mayores en la capital regional.
La celebración fue con todas las medidas preventivas sanitarias que amerita la pandemia del COVID 19 en los residentes y voluntarios de la Casa.
Dirige dicha instancia el misionero Luis Zepeda Carvajal, quien al respecto de esta conmemoración señaló a Diario Chañarcillo, «cumplimos 38 años al servicio de la comunidad. Estos 38 años han sido muy duros, porque nacimos de la nada y hoy día estamos sirviendo a muchos, sin credo político; ni nada. Estamos sirviendo con mucho amor y sobre todo cuidando también a nuestros abuelitos”.
En la actualidad cuentan con 10 voluntarios, de diversos sectores de la capital regional, que entregan sus cuidados y tiempos a la decena de abuelitos allí albergados.
Narró que la Casa nació a inicios de los 70, entregando una taza de leche a menores de escasos recursos los fines de semana.
Acotó que “después viendo la necesidad de los abuelitos, nace la Casa de Acogida, por muchos abuelitos abandonados, que no tienen familia y que realmente necesitan de nuestros servicios. Nos ubicamos en Juan Bautista N° 850 de Villa El Cerro de Copiapó”.
La Casa de Acogida Dama Blanca de La Paz tiene una capacidad para 13 abuelitos, y data del 12 de junio del año 1984, dando cobijo y atención a adultos mayores carentes.
“Fue una sorpresa bastante grande que nos dio el Regimiento, con la visita de la Banda Musical, porque esto no estaba dentro de la planificación. Fue una emoción muy grande, y los abuelitos disfrutaron”, añadió el director.
En cuanto al financiamiento de la Casa, el misionero Luis Zepeda Carvajal, indicó que se está realiza a través de la jubilación de los residentes, a lo que se agrega el aporte de particulares y organizaciones de la comunidad.
Puntualizó que la Casa está estrecha para cubrir las necesidades de albergue, por lo que contemplan la construcción de una nueva sección. “Estamos haciendo un nuevo pabellón, y realmente nos ha costado mucho. Hemos avanzado muy poco en este pabellón para una capacidad de 6 camas más y requerimos materiales de construcción”.
El COVID-19 es una constante amenaza para la población, y de todos es sabido que la población adulto mayor es de alto riesgo. Al respecto, el director de la Casa de Acogida indicó que “hasta el momento no hemos tenido ningún problema. No entra nadie ajeno a la Casa. Las visitas se atienden solamente a través de una ventana de vidrio con citófono. Además como prevención contamos con el apoyo del Consultorio de Paipote, esto ha sido desde que iniciamos nuestra labor, y a quienes agradecemos”.
“El mensaje a la comunidad es hoy día son ellos, los abuelitos que necesitan de nosotros y mañana podríamos ser nosotros. Muchas veces podemos aportar, dar algo, pero a veces hay desconfianza. Esto es un hecho concreto. No hay ayuda del estado, acá está la ayuda de la gente que realmente lo ha hecho desinteresadamente y así hemos podido salir adelante. Hoy son los abuelitos quienes necesitan, mañana podríamos ser nosotros”, expresó finalmente el encargado de la Casa de Acogida Dama Blanca de La Paz.
