Desde que tocó su piso en marzo, rozando los US$2 por libra, la cotización del cobre solo ha sabido de alzas. Este martes, el denominado “sueldo de Chile” se cotizó en US$3,3121 por libra, su mayor valor desde el 22 de enero de 2014. Pero bien saben en la industria minera que alzas en el precio traen presiones de costos, lo que ha ocurrido cada vez que el metal trepa en las bolsas.

Eso sí, este ciclo alto de precios encuentra a la minería en un buen momento de costos. Según el observatorio de costos que elabora la Comisión Chilena del Cobre (Cochilco), el costo de caja de las grandes mineras, es decir, cuánto les cuesta producir una libra de cobre, fue de US$1,21, el valor más bajo desde que se elabora este informe, es decir, 2014.

Uno de los elementos que suelen reflejar estas mayores presiones para la industria son las negociaciones colectivas, que venían mostrando resultados bastante moderados, con bonos más bajos que en los años anteriores y reajustes pequeños o incluso, cero. Pero esa tendencia ya muestra algunas señales de cambio. Este fin de semana, y tras casi un mes de paralización, el sindicato de Minera Candelaria y la administración alcanzaron un acuerdo que, entre otros ítems, incluyó el pago de un bono de término de negociación por $17,5 millones.

El monto excede por largo los que se venían observando en el sector. A comienzos de mes, Codelco alcanzó un acuerdo con los trabajadores Rol T de la división El Teniente, con reajuste cero y bono de $3,5 millones. En julio, la propia estatal acordó extender el contrato colectivo con los supervisores de Radomiro Tomic sin bono de término de negociación.

Lo ocurrido en Candelaria (de la firma sueca Lundin Mining) era seguido con atención por el resto de la industria, considerando que en 2021 hay agendada una veintena de procesos colectivos.
