Almagro echa al jefe de la CIDH y ésta le acusa de violar su autonomía
El secretario general de la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA), Luis Almagro, anunció este martes su decisión de no renovar el mandato del secretario ejecutivo de la CIDH, Paulo Abrao, lo que, según la Comisión, atenta contra su “autonomía e independencia”.
En la madrugada del lunes, la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (CIDH), órgano autónomo de la OEA, reveló la decisión de Almagro de “abstenerse de avanzar en el proceso de renovación del mandato de su secretario ejecutivo”, Paulo Abrao, en el puesto desde agosto de 2016.
Ante esta medida, la Comisión “expresa su más enérgica protesta; así como su alarma ante un grave embate contra su independencia y autonomía”, ya que en enero de este año el organismo de derechos humanos había decidido por unanimidad renovar el mandato de Abrao para el periodo 2020-2024.
