Al menos 50 personas murieron en Kentucky, Estados Unidos, tras el paso de un devastador tornado en las últimas horas. Así lo confirmó este sábado el gobernador del estado, Andy Beshear, en momentos en que varias regiones de los Estados Unidos se están viendo afectadas por tormentas fuertes.
En la región de Kentucky, fuertemente afectada por el temporal, múltiples localidades fueron devastadas por el fenómeno.
“Me temo que hay más de 50 muertos en Kentucky (…) probablemente sean entre 70 y 100 (fallecidos), es devastador”, dijo Beshear durante una conferencia de prensa.
El colapso del techo de una fábrica de velas dejó un gran número de víctimas en la localidad de Mayfield, aseguró el gobernador. “Antes de la medianoche (del viernes), declaré el estado de emergencia”, precisó.
Las tormentas dejaron víctimas y daños en varios estados del sureste y el centro-sur de Estados Unidos el viernes.
En tanto, en Arkansas murió otra persona, según la prensa.
Y en Tennessee, al menos dos personas fallecieron en accidentes relacionados con las tormentas, según un responsable de la gestión de emergencias citado por los medios locales.
