Pobreza en América Latina toca niveles no vistos en casi 30 años

Son cifras que preocupan. “Vemos ahora mismo las cifras de pobreza más altas de los últimos 27 años,” cuenta Christof Wünsch, director del departamento para América Latina de la organización de ayuda alemana “Brot für die Welt” (Pan para el mundo).

“Lo que observamos, y también lo que nos comparten nuestros socios en el continente, es que la situación es realmente dramática y que, lamentablemente, los niveles de pobreza seguirán aumentando”, cuenta Wünsch en entrevista con DW.

De acuerdo con un informe especial de la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL) presentado el pasado junio, los países de la región se encuentran ante una desaceleración del crecimiento económico.

A esto se suma una mayor presión inflacionaria y una recuperación lenta e incompleta de los mercados laborales de las repercusiones de la pandemia de la Covid-19.

En consecuencia, aumentarán los niveles de pobreza y la inseguridad alimentaria, según el organismo.

La inflación regional aumentará del 6,6% en 2021 al 8,1% en 2022. La pobreza aumentaría del 29,8% en 2018 al 33,7% en 2022, y la pobreza extrema del 10,4% en 2018 al 14,9% este año.
