El Evangelio es Buena Nueva porque nos pone delante la Vida, la Vida sin límite. Esa Vida ha tomado forma de plenitud en la persona de Jesús. Por eso el evangelista pone en boca de Jesús aquella frase: “Yo soy el pan de la vida: el que viene a mí no pasará hambre, el que cree en mí no pasará nunca sed”. Al decir “el pan de Dios es el pan que baja del cielo y da vida al mundo”, nos indica que ese pan es un don gratuito para todas y todos sin excepción.

Las tradiciones espirituales insisten en que busquemos y hallemos la voluntad de Dios. Aquello no está exento del peligro, donde “el buscar y hallar” fácilmente se transforma en un proceso de buscar y hallar lo que nosotros esperamos de Dios para terminar con un Dios a nuestra medida. Aquello sería lo opuesto del propósito original. Lo que Dios quiere es lo que Jesús ha manifestado y vivido: llegar a la plenitud de humanidad. El mapa o el camino para lograr o acceder a esa plenitud es un camino que nos da el mismo Jesús. Está inscrito en lo que es nuestro Ser, aquello innombrable que experimentamos como nuestro anhelo más profundo, en aquello que no es diferente del Ser de Jesús.

“La Vida que Jesús promete no viene de fuera y espectacularmente. Está en cada uno y se manifiesta en lo cotidiano, como amor desinteresado, como preocupación por el otro”, dirá un autor. Recordemos que el evangelio de Juan da un mandamiento nuevo (¡uno solo que se substituye a las 613 prescripciones vigentes en la Ley mosaica!): “ámense los unos a los otros como yo los he amado”. Éste es el pan que da vida eterna. En muy apretada síntesis, se podría decir: ¡no da vida eterna comer el pan sino dejarte comer! Lo que Jesús quería era que los seres humanos descubrieran que se podía vivir desde una perspectiva diferente, que alcanzar la plenitud humana significaba el descubrir lo que Dios es en cada uno y una vez descubierto ese don total (Vida), respondiéramos como respondió Jesús.
