Eduardo Cisternas, el deportista más joven del Team Chile en los Juegos Olímpicos, tuvo un tremendo debut en Tokio 2020 con un triunfo en la serie clasificatoria de los 400 metros libres en la natación.

Es así que, con un crono de 3:54.10, el nadador de 17 años rompió el récord chileno de la categoría y se impuso ante Irakly Revishvili de Georgia, Igor Mogne de Mozambique y Filip Derkoski de Macedonia del Norte.

La anterior marca nacional en los 400 metros libres también pertenecía a Cisternas, con un tiempo de 3:55.78 que ostentaba desde marzo de este año, en el Sudamericano de Natación en Buenos Aires.

Pese al prometedor estreno, el tiempo registrado fue insuficiente para meterse entre los mejores ocho que clasificaron a la final por la medalla, ya que el corte fue de 3:45.68.
