Minera Candelaria presenta buses eléctricos para transporte de personal

Un inédito e importante hito en materia de desarrollo sustentable marcó Minera Candelaria, con la presentación y puesta en servicio de dos buses eléctricos, de un total de 18, que serán utilizados para el transporte de trabajadores y trabajadoras.

La actividad se realizó en dependencias de Minera Candelaria, tomando todas las medidas sanitarias contempladas en los protocolos del Plan de Acción COVID-19 de la compañía, y contó con la presencia de la Seremi de Energía de Atacama, Kim-Fa Bondi, junto al presidente de Minera Candelaria, Luis Sánchez.

Los buses adquiridos por Minera Candelaria son los primeros de ese tipo que entran en servicio en la Región de Atacama, en la primera etapa de un proyecto a largo plazo que apunta a renovar la flota de transporte de trabajadores, con un total de 18 buses que cuentan con tecnología de avanzada en materia de electromovilidad. Su motor eléctrico, alimentado por baterías de litio, tiene un menor costo de consumo en comparación con cualquier otro tipo de combustible fósil, menores costos de mantención y no emite ruidos.

Del mismo modo, cuentan con todas las medidas de seguridad y comodidad para el traslado de 33 pasajeros, aforo que por los protocolos COVID-19 se ha reducido a 15 pasajeros. Además, tiene un sistema de cámaras de seguridad, un sistema supresor de incendios automático y una cámara de retroceso con visualización en cabina, entre otros dispositivos.

Respecto de esta iniciativa de Minera Candelaria, la Seremi de Energía de Atacama, Kim-Fa Bondi, expresó que “porque queremos ser un país sustentable, sabemos que en materia minera la sostenibilidad y sustentabilidad deben y pueden ir de la mano, la mejor prueba de aquello es hoy día la llegada de los primeros buses eléctricos a la región de Atacama, que están aquí en el Distrito 10 de Candelaria. Felicitamos este tremendo trabajo que se está realizando, pensado justamente, en las generaciones del mañana y poder reducir la huella de carbono que se genera en nuestra región”.

En tanto, el presidente de Minera Candelaria, Luis Sánchez manifestó que “para nosotros hoy es un gran hito recibir a nuestra Seremi de Energía y Minería en nuestras operaciones. Es un hito además, porque nos acompaña en el cierre de una importante etapa de un proceso que está desarrollado nuestra compañía. En primer lugar, quiero destacar que hemos impulsado una Política de Eficiencia Energética y luego hemos ido conectando varios esfuerzos en ese sentido. Contamos con un contrato de suministro eléctrico que en un breve plazo nos va a proveer energía desde fuentes renovables, por lo que nuestra huella de carbono se va a reducir; y además acabamos de recibir la certificación de nuestro Sistema de Gestión de Energía bajo la norma ISO 50.001. Por lo tanto, la visita de la Seremi es importante, porque nos inyecta ánimos para seguir trabajando en esta línea y prepararnos para los desafíos que vienen”.
