Cobre alcanza su máximo en 7 años y expertos analizan si hay un nuevo “súper ciclo” y su impacto en las finanzas públicas

Solo en noviembre, el valor del metal creció 14,6% y ayer cerró bordeando los US$3,5 la libra -nivel no visto desde 2013- en la Bolsa de Metales de Londres, pulverizando todas las estimaciones respecto a cómo se comportaría a fin de este año.

Para los especialistas, esto no se trata de un incremento que se extenderá por un par de semanas o algunos meses, sino que aseguran que la presión alcista -dada por un conjunto de factores a escala mundial-, se mantendría por un periodo prolongado, lo que hace recordar el denominado “súper ciclo” del cobre que se vivió en el país hace algunos años, llevando al metal a alcanzar un histórico US$4,6 la libra en febrero de 2011 y, de paso, engrosar de forma importante la billetera fiscal.

Según dijo a Emol Álvaro Merino, gerente de estudios de la Sociedad Nacional de Minería (Sonami), “todas las proyecciones de precio para 2020 no consideraban un valor del cobre como los que estamos observando actualmente”, explicando que su fuerte alza se debe, fundamentalmente, a la rápida recuperación económica que ha tenido China -que capta más del 50% del consumo mundial de cobre-. “Los estímulos aplicados por China, en orden de inyectar liquidez, rebaja de impuestos e inversión en infraestructura han tenido un claro efecto, pues el gigante asiático ha crecido a mayor velocidad de lo que se había estimado inicialmente”, acotó.
