Producción de Antofagasta Minerals cayó 4,6 % en último trimestre

En los primeros nueve meses del año, la producción de cobre del Grupo Minero estuvo en línea con lo esperado, con 541.300 toneladas. El costo neto de caja fue de US$1,14/lb.

Antofagasta Minerals informó este miércoles que su producción de cobre llegó a 169.600 toneladas en el tercer trimestre; es decir, una baja de 4,6 % respecto de igual período del año pasado. ¿La razón? El menor dinamismo en Los Pelambres por la ejecución de una mantención y debido a las menores leyes en Antucoya.

Con todo, la compañía minera de la familia Luksic reportó en los primeros nueve meses del año 541.300 toneladas; esto es una caída de 7,3 % en la producción de cobre, lo que de todas maneras está en línea con lo esperado en su plan minero 2020. Un comunicado enviado por la compañía revela que este fue el resultado de la menor ley de los minerales que procesa la planta concentradora de Centinela.

En su informe, la firma chilena informó que en estos primeros nueve meses del año el costo neto de caja llegó a US$1,14/lb, un 2,6 % inferior con respecto al mismo periodo de 2019; dicho efecto se debió, principalmente, a un peso chileno más débil, menores costos de insumos y un estricto control de costos.

Con todo y eso, la minera retomó los proyectos de inversión que había sido suspendidos a raíz de la emergencia sanitaria. “Reiniciamos la construcción del proyecto de expansión de Infraestructura Complementaria (INCO) de Minera Los Pelambres”; para esta operación cuenta con una dotación de un 75 % de la originalmente considerada, según indicó su presidente ejecutivo, Iván Arriagada.

También reanudó los trabajos del rajo Esperanza Sur, en Minera Centinela, y del proyecto Cupro-Chlor, en Minera Zaldívar, que también habían sido suspendidas a raíz de la pandemia. Asimismo, para 2020 el ejecutivo señaló que espera que la producción esté en el rango de 730 mil a 760 mil toneladas de cobre, a medida que aumentan las leyes en Minera Centinela y que se sigan respetando los protocolos de salud por Covid-19.

Por otro lado, Arriagada destacó la colocación de bonos por US$500 millones a 10 años plazo en el mercado internacional. “El éxito de esta primera emisión es una señal clara de la confianza que Antofagasta Minerals se ha ganado en los mercados internacionales, gracias a su sólido desempeño operacional, financiero y en sustentabilidad.

Para el país es además una señal positiva –y también de confianza– el hecho de que una empresa chilena, con operaciones dentro del país, genere este nivel de interés y demanda por parte de inversionistas, principalmente extranjeros”, destacó el ejecutivo.
