Nueva Zelanda registra su primer muerto de covid-19 en más de 3 meses
Nueva Zelanda, que parecía hace unas semanas que había controlado totalmente la epidemia del nuevo coronavirus, registró el viernes su primer deceso por covid-19 en más de tres meses.
La víctima, de unos cincuenta años, falleció en un hospital de Auckland, y estaba relacionado con un foco epidémico detectado el 12 de agosto en una familia residente en esta ciudad, la segunda más importante del país.
La irrupción de este foco puso fin a 102 días sin ningún nuevo caso local de coronavirus.
Desde entonces, los contagios han ido aumentando, hasta llegar a los 152, tres de los cuales fueron registrados este viernes.
En este país del Pacífico, se han registrado en total 23 fallecidos desde la aparición del virus.
El enfermo fallecido el viernes, el primero desde el 24 de mayo, sería la víctima más joven de la enfermedad en el país.
La primera ministra Jacinda Ardern declaró que la tendencia sugería que el foco epidémico de Auckland parecía contenido, pero que todavía no se podía cantar victoria.
“Estábamos preparados y, actuando pronto y de forma firme, especialmente con los habitantes de Auckland, pensamos que esto ha permitido contener la reaparición del virus”, dijo a la prensa. “Pero también (hay) aspectos que sugieren que es necesario ser prudentes”, agregó.
El lunes se suprimieron las medidas de confinamiento en Auckland, decretadas el 12 de agosto.
