Barquiteña asume la vicerrectoría de Asuntos Estudiantiles y Comunitarios de la U de Chile
El pasado 1 de julio, Sonia Pérez Tello, asumió como vicerrectora de Asuntos Estudiantiles y Comunitarios de la Universidad de Chile. En sus primeras palabras, reconoció que el cargo la tomó por sorpresa, pero que lo asume con un norte claro: “Tenemos que ser capaces de hacer de nuestra vida en la universidad una experiencia de calidad social y pública”.
Sonia es psicóloga egresada de la misma universidad y académica de la Facultad de Ciencias. Durante su carrera se ha especializado en temas de vulnerabilidad social, educación y modelos de intervención en relación a los desastres socionaturales. Justamente, esta trayectoria investigativa la trajo a Atacama en 2015 cuando los aluviones destruyeron diversas comunas de la región, principalmente Chañaral y Diego de Almagro.
El trabajo de su equipo y, en particular de la investigadora, fue reconocido por el aporte concreto a la ardua labor de levantar la zona. “Profesionalismo y pasión”, coinciden los que por esos días estuvieron en la zona.
Sin embargo, para Sonia había algo más profundo que la motivaba: su gran amor por esta tierra. Ella vivió en Chañaral entre los años 1976 y 1985 y estudió en la Escuela Gaspar Cabrales de Barquito -cuando era conocida como F5 y luego F8- hasta séptimo básico.
A pesar de su vasta educación, que incluye magíster y doctorado en sicología cursados en Italia, Sonia reconoce que la formación que más ha marcado su vida es la que recibió en ese pequeño colegio, en especial la de sus primeros maestros, Camilo Cruz y de otros como María Herrera, Rolando Arraño y Gloria Jofré.
El compromiso por la educación y el desarrollo de los alumnos que tenían los profesores de esa época, no solo preocupados del rendimiento, es lo que más tarde la llevaría a convertirse en docente universitaria.
“Y eso es justamente lo que pretendo hacer en la vicerrectoría y que es transformar el concepto de bienestar de los estudiantes universitarios, no sólo como un tema de beneficios ya sea de salud o materiales, sino que de generar las condiciones para su desarrollo humano. Esa forma de entender la educación viene desde mi paso por el colegio de Barquito”, dice Sonia.
Otra cosa que atesora de esos años es la capacidad de valorar la diversidad. “En se lugar convivían muchas historias, orígenes y culturas. A pesar de ser un pueblo pequeño, existían diferencias y desigualdades muy fuertes entre nosotros, la escuela nos enseñó a conocernos y querernos de verdad independiente del lugar que vinieramos. Ese desafío de integración y comunidad, en la educación universitaria, básica o media, sobre todo en Santiago, no se ha sabido enfrentar. Por ello, mi segundo elemento en este cargo será generar comunidad y eso viene de mi escuela básica y mis profesores que en esos años se esforzaron y lo lograron”, destaca la docente.
“El máximo desafío es inspirar y convocar de una manera que la participación se vuelva necesaria y fundante de las decisiones que tomemos”, agrega la profesional más joven en asumir una vicerrectoría en esa universidad.
Parte de su experiencia profesional incluye su rol como directora de Investigación de la Facultad de Ciencias Sociales (FACSO) y subdirectora del Departamento de psicología. Además, en noviembre de 2010, fue elegida como Mejor Docente de Pregrado de ese año por su facultad. A esto se suma su participación en la Comisión de expertos para la Resiliencia frente a Desastres Naturales, y su rol como revisora de la Estrategia del Consejo Nacional de Innovación para el Desarrollo (CNID) “Ciencias, Tecnologías e Innovación para un Nuevo Pacto de Desarrollo Sostenible”.
“La comunidad universitaria es un territorio en constante construcción. Habitan aquí, por ser una universidad pública, muchas otras comunidades con desigualdades y vulnerabilidades, y nuestra misión es no reproducirlas, por eso no basta el sentido de pertenencia, sino que reconocernos en una historia y para eso la Vicerrectoría de Asuntos Estudiantiles y Comunitarios (VAEC) puede ser un lugar que ayude a transformar la historia en participación y memoria”, comentó.
Su trayectoria académica y de investigación ha estado enfocada en temas como la vulnerabilidad social en diferentes escenarios, como los desastres socionaturales.
¿Cómo esa experiencia puede vertirse en esta vicerrectoría?
Hay una relación temática entre las vulnerabilidades vividas históricamente por nuestra sociedad en el marco de los desastres, y la situación de crisis social, económica y sanitaria que estamos viviendo en Chile, un momento histórico que nos ha permitido comprender que los procesos sociales que vive nuestro país -como los procesos sociales que habitan también en la universidad- están atravesados por disputas que no son solo de poder, sino de sentidos. Un proyecto común, tanto de universidad como de sociedad, requiere aunar sentidos, al mismo tiempo que requiere una coordinación y creación de estrategias que sean transformadoras; todo esto obviamente tiene sus dificultades en la medida que no dejemos atrás las formas más cómodas de hacer las cosas. Esto es algo que he aprendido en el tema de los desastres.
Junto a esto, lo que me parece más importante para ejercer este cargo es mi experiencia de docente universitaria, y la suerte que he tenido de generar equipos transdisciplinarios, de poder coordinar y conocer el impacto que tiene en la U. de Chile el diálogo verdadero entre distintas disciplinas.
Estamos en un momento de crisis socio sanitaria con múltiples desafíos para la U. de Chile.
¿Qué elementos se están abordado y cuáles deben abordarse para manejar esta crisis?
Lo principal es garantizar la continuidad de nuestros procesos, la formación profesional y académica, no por un esfuerzo de normalizar, sino que por la necesidad de fortalecer el abordaje de las debilidades que genera la pandemia y por luchar contra el aislamiento. Seguir estudiando y enseñando implica para nuestra comunidad seguir cumpliendo la función a través de la cual aportamos a la sociedad. Eso de alguna medida nos protege, nos resguarda y nos fortalece.
Pero el contexto no es solo la pandemia, sino que la crisis social en la que nuestro país históricamente se encuentra. Y en una crisis como esta no es solo el cuerpo físico el que se ve amenazado por un virus, sino que el cuerpo académico, estudiantil y el trabajador es el que debemos fortalecer y cuidar».
