Desde el 1 de abril y por un año: Extienden vigencia de cédulas de identidad de personas extranjeras
La Seremi de Justicia y Derechos Humanos, Margarita Contreras, informó que a partir de este miércoles, luego de su publicación en el Diario Oficial, comenzó a regir la extensión por un año de las cédulas de identidad pertenecientes a personas extranjeras.
Respecto a los alcances de la medida, la autoridad regional, señaló que aplicará para todos los extranjeros que solicitaron previamente el trámite de prórroga de residencia, o que estén en proceso de obtención de visa de permanencia definitiva, ante el Departamento de Extranjería y Migración del Ministerio del Interior y Seguridad Pública, o en una Gobernación Provincial.
“Valoramos y agradecemos esta importante medida, impulsada por el Ministerio de Justicia y Derechos Humanos, que apunta a enfrentar una urgente necesidad de las personas extranjeras que requieren hacer en medio de la pandemia del Covid-19, que requieren hacer diversos trámites y gracias a la extensión de vigencia de su documento de identificación evita que deban concurrir a las oficinas del Registro Civil para renovar sus documentos y de esta manera, se previenen eventuales contagios reduciendo las aglomeraciones de personas en los recintos”, añadió la Seremi de Justicia y DD.HH.
Es así como a contar de este miércoles, estas cédulas se extenderán hasta el 31 de diciembre de 2020, en el caso de aquellas vencidas durante el año 2019, o por el plazo de un año a contar de la fecha del vencimiento de las cédulas originales, en el caso de aquellas que hayan expirado o expiren durante el año 2020.
La autoridad indicó que esta prórroga en la extensión de los carnet, rige exclusivamente en territorio nacional y no tiene validez en el extranjero.
Margarita Contreras explicó que esta iniciativa ha sido impulsada por el Ministerio de Justicia y Derechos Humanos, y se enmarca en el Plan Justicia Te Cuida, que decreta una serie de medidas ante la Emergencia Sanitaria, para todos los servicios dependientes de esta cartera de Estado: Gendamería, Sename, Defensoría, SML y las Corporaciones de Asistencia Judicial, además del Registro Civil.
Por su parte la directora regional del Servicio de Registro Civil e Identificación, Lucy Cepeda, sostuvo: “Con esta medida buscamos reforzar el llamado a la comunidad para que se dirija a las oficinas sólo en casos de extrema urgencia, por lo que insistimos en que se utilicen las plataformas virtuales que nuestro Servicio tiene disponible”.
