Brasil cierra frontera con Venezuela ante empeoramiento de pandemia
Brasil cerró el miércoles su frontera con Venezuela por un período inicial de 15 días, citando tensiones en el sistema de salud pública por la epidemia de coronavirus, en una situación que el presidente Jair Bolsonaro describió como “incapacidad” de la nación petrolera para responder al avance de la enfermedad.
La medida, anunciada en un decreto publicado en el Diario Oficial de la Unión, no se aplica a camiones con mercancías o ayuda humanitaria transfronteriza previamente autorizada por funcionarios de salud.
El veto de ingreso de venezolanos a Brasil podría ampliarse desde el período inicial de 15 días, agregó el decreto. Bolsonaro anunció la medida el martes en medio de crecientes críticas sobre cómo ha manejado la crisis del coronavirus.
Bolsonaro y el presidente venezolano, Nicolás Maduro, han estado en un constante antagonismo e intercambiado insultos. El derrumbe de la economía de Venezuela ha llevado a cientos de personas de ese país a cruzar diariamente la frontera con Brasil.
El martes por la noche, el gobierno de Bolsonaro también solicitó al Congreso que autorice un estado de emergencia hasta fin de año, lo que el presidente del Senado, Davi Alcolumbre, calificó como una de las principales prioridades.
